Affordable Warmth Obligation (HHCRO) – Powered by Smart Eco Grants
The Affordable Warmth Obligation, also known as the Home Heat Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO), is a government-backed initiative under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. It is designed to reduce fuel poverty by offering free boiler replacements and insulation grants to low-income households receiving certain means-tested benefits. This helps ensure that heat is produced efficiently and retained within the home.
Although earlier ECO phases have ended, the latest version of the scheme still allows eligible households—especially those who missed out previously—to benefit from energy-efficient upgrades. If you receive qualifying government benefits, you may be eligible for fully funded measures, including boiler replacements and insulation.
Additional Criteria – Child Benefit
You may also qualify for ECO funding through Child Benefit, provided your total gross household income meets government thresholds.
Your child must be under 16 years old and live at the property.
What is the Energy Company Obligation (ECO)?
The ECO scheme is part of the UK Government’s strategy to cut carbon emissions. Energy companies are required to fund energy-saving improvements for qualifying households. These improvements, known as primary measures, include insulation and efficient heating systems that help lower energy usage and bills.
What’s Included in the Boiler Grant?
Smart Eco Grants offers free boiler replacement through the ECO program. If your application is successful, a brand-new boiler will be installed by our approved professionals—often including new heating controls at no additional cost. In rare cases, a small contribution may be required.
